I have been wanting to start a newspaper with my friends. What should i do to make it happen when i'm just 13?

The best thing to do is DO IT.

I own my small business and I'll tell you what... it takes a little bit of your hide to make something of it. Get a computer, some paper, and a good word editor (MS Publisher/MS Word).

My suggestion would be to examine the quality and quantity of news you intend to put in the paper at the start (I suggest quality more than anything). Make the paper's content unbias and focus the exposure to just your community; in other words, deliver free copies of the paper within the neighborhood on the same day the major papers are delivered (Sundays or daily). You and your friends should distribute these papers as much as possible, for a decent amount of time to get people use to seeing them. I'm telling you now... nothing is better than exposure; money is peanuts at this stage in the game.

When you have successfully exposed your paper, you can start developing a business proposal for a grant or a bank loan, or loans from friends and family. When you request funding, lenders need to see solid seasoning of your business, and better yet, evidence that the business will work. By you exposing your paper (marketing), you not only enlighten your community but you could possibly enlighten the very people that can financially aid you living in that community.

Bottomline; start it now and get your exposure. If I were you, I'd get my friends and come up with a marketing plan. Again, this is going to take your hides... money is not important at this time so you might as well suck up the printer ink costs and paper costs for awhile.

When you finish this stage, start looking for financing.

Pick friends that know how to write well and spell correctly. Get a camera.

You can use something like Microsoft Publisher to put it all together.

Do little jobs here and there ans save your money. When you see or hear things that are newsworthy jot down some notes on it. Those little notes may come in handy later.
