How can i tell client to pay me 50% fee before i did their job?

i'm a design freelancer

A friend who does website design on freelance basis tells his clients that he requires a 50 % advance payment for each job. Full payment upon submission of required deliverable.

Develop a work order contract where payment provisions is clearly stated then you and you client signs the work order.

This is your basis for asking for the 50% advance payment.

you should have a contract and that would be included in the contract.

Well, you don't have to be nice to them, just polite. They should be fully aware of all of the expenses you incur, and you should make sure that they know the full extent of your fee. It's your job to inform them; they should not have to pull teeth when trying to find out how much a deposit should be.
