What happens if my workers get fewer hours during a slow down in business? Can they collect unemployement? anything less than 40 hours can be claimed by unemployment, temporary furloughs, reduction in hours. They will have to go through the same waiting period as anyone layed off but it counts for the year. Keep in mind that if they do collect your contribution will increase to the state as your incidence rate increases. Unemployment will be collected if the employee was laid off, not fired. Unless you laid off the person completely, otherwise they can't go to unemployment office. And the office will call you to verify if the employee is eligible for the benefit. Not sure if the hourly employee can do so. Check with the office. |
