Stay at home Mom needed job!?

Is there really any jobs that you can do online at home in your spare time that do not cost you money upfront? Im a single mother who has a child with a handicap and I need to work.
Im not looking for a phony job so if you are a scammer please do not respond.

Would you consider Mary Kay? It is not like most direct sales you have the ability to work from home as much or as little as you want. They offer you the option of purchasing a fully maintained website for only $25.00 the first year and $50 after that which is still really low. I started my business while working full time outside the home. After getting pregnant with my second child I did not want to go back to work. I held appointments from my home while the baby napped as she got older I did play dates the kids played while Mom played make-up. Really, the only way to make money is by delivering something of value to customers.

So read those books (get 'em at the library) and also read the books in the section on "small business" and "self employment."

They won't have much on "internet business" but that's ok, really you should first identify something you can do that has value that people are willing to pay for, and that will return a decent income for your time investment.

You're right, most of the internet biz things are scams. The legitimate ones focus around a tightly targeted niche, delivering information, community, or (sometimes) products. There are also legitimate ways to make money as a broker / affiliate, but that's a more difficult business.

Or, you could sign up at elance.com and do freelance gigs. Check it out. Also look into being a "virtual assistant"

None of these is easy or guaranteed. They all require a lot of work, investment of time and experience (not necessarily cash), and some luck.

If you live in the US, I can help direct you to some reliable sites. If you have to PAY - it is NOT a job. The reason why you don't find legit sites when you go out and do a search for jobs online, is because most of them do not need to advertise as they get people through referrals of others who have worked for them in the past.

Even though many people post links in their answers, it is strictly prohibited in the Terms of Service here on answers, sooooooo ... if you go to my profile and click on the link to my blog, scroll down through the comments, you will find two links to reliable information and companies. I really prefer the women for hire site the best as they also give a whole lot more information on other topics also.

I worked for one of these companies as a virtual call center rep doing customer service. I was paid an hourly wage during training and then a bit more when I went 'live' actually talking to customers. I enjoyed it very much.

Just as a note of interest... any site that claims to offer jobs, but also touts making $20-$30 an hour, especially the data entry type 'jobs' - are scams. Real job sites will expect you to fill out an application, go through telephone interview processes, etc ... just as though you had applied in person.
