Advice for starting a teen lawnmowing biz?

im 14. in desperate need of money. advice for starting a lawn biz. (charges, size, fliers, getting rid of bugs-(bees, wasps...

go to people's houses and knock on their doors (go to everyone's house, despite whether their lawn is mowed or not) and give them a business card (these are much more professional, and people are more likely to put one on their refrigerator. I would suggest getting 1 or 2 friends and also offer a full lawn service (mow, edge, trim the hedges, blow away the grass).

you should offer a number of services and prices, for example:
mow the yard-$30 a half acre (some people have large yards) (you could do this yourself)
partial lawn service (edge, mow, trim hedges)- $60 a half acre (perhaps with the help of a friend)
full lawn service (edge, mow, trim hedges, blow away grass, fertilize)- $90 a half acre (perhaps with the help of 2 friends)

you should change your prices according to supply and demand, if you aren't getting customers, lower your price, if you're getting too many customers, raise your prices

don't bite off more than you can chew! and good luck!

and whose mower it is--family I presume and make sure you
pay for its use per lawn job--pay your father. [u charge $1.00 and pay him .25].

do not try to get rid of bugs, that
is another professional's task.
STick to lawns only!

I would charge $1.00 per lawn
or $2.50 max; no one will undercut you.

Don't know where you live but in Houston where I am you have almost no chance to get enough jobs to pay for itself.

However there is one that you could do that will make you way more than cutting lawns. Consider power washing drive ways.

Here they get between 75 and 100 US for one driveway and more if its really long. You can get a decent PW from any Lowes, Sears, Home Depot for 300-400 US. So in four driveways you can pay for the machine.

Now except for gas and normal maint you are in the clear. You could easily do 4 driveways in one weekend. Get them lined up in advance and have your dad spot you the cash for the weekend. Pay him off when your done and now your in business and don't owe anybody.
