Shipping a lot of cosmetics/fragrances.?

I am moving from west coast to east coast soon. I do have a lot of cosmetics that I have to send. Right now I have about 3 full of large boxes of cosmetics. Does anyone know if USPS has any limitation to sending cosmetics and fragrances?

There are no limitations on shipping cosmetics and fragrances in the mail. However, I would be concerned about a couple of things.

First off, it will be difficult to pack a lot of that stuff safely, especially fragrances. Once they have been opened, perfume bottles are hard to close well enough that they could withstand being shipped cross-country. You might be able to wrap cosmetics up tightly enough, but liquids? You might wind up with an empty container by the time it arrives. And that day's mail would be smelling really good. ;-)

Second, three boxes of cosmetics represents a LOT of money spent. If the package gets lost or damaged, the Postal Service will not cover the cost, unless you pay for insurance, and even then there is a limit on the amount they will pay (not to mention a ton of hassle if you try to collect).

If I were you, I would seriously consider taking some of that stuff with me. At least, think about taking the perfume and the most expensive cosmetic items. If you are driving your car east, see if you can find a way to squeeze at least one box into the car with your other things. (If it won't fit with your clothes in the car, think about mailing yourself a box full of clothes. You won't have to worry about the clothes breaking.) If you are using a moving company, ask if they have special boxes for cosmetics, and consider having them handle the transport rather than the mail.

Good luck!!

i can't see any problem with shipping them and am not aware of anything problem they would have. i might suggest considering using your postal service... its a lot cheaper that way!

There isn't a limitation on these, but this might not be the best way to go. How large are these boxes? If they are large enough to fit on a pallet, you might consider shipping them freight. Things just stay in better condition that way, though it's not cost-effective for small loads. You would also probably be cheaper shipping them UPS, but I'd recommend packing them quite well if you did, as some boxes can get pretty beat up. Just make sure you securely tape the boxes, however you ship them, and try to "cushion" the packages with packing paper or even packing peanuts (though I don't recommend them usually, just because I don't like stryofoam unless you just reuse some).

Seems to me that this is a question for USPS, not random people on Yahoo, no?
