What is the best city to live in? (Price of living, crime etc.)? Check out http://www.city-data.com A group of friends and I, all middle aged women, left the same neighborhood this past year to resettle in various places that had affordable homes and other things we found attractive. What we learned, though, is the things you can only know from actually making the move. Sometimes, the town doesn't feel right after the newness wears off, or something else makes it difficult to have a life even though the place is great on paper and lovely to look at. Decide what you like and visit the top contenders a couple of times, even if it is expensive to do so. I would say the most important thing is, don't cash out your old life completely until you are sure you don't want it any more. Then, if you find yourself in a new city where you really don't like it after the honeymoon is over, at least you do not regret leaving the old place behind. |
