Is it rental scam??? |
Ok i tried to find a place in Vancouver for summer, as i am not in vancouver, so i found a place online. I talked to the landlord on the phone and he seems ok. he is like 25 years old dude, and he said he wanted full month deposit, coz he it is his own place and furnitures r expensive. He took some pics of the place for me. He said he is going to on a trip and wont back early may, so i deposit 1500$ into his bank account ( the bank teller tells me he does live at the street he rents out , as she can access his infomation). I contact him to ask for a receipt, he said he is on trip and has no access to his bank until he comes back. and I said " stay in touch", and he said " i want this out of the way for my trip", it sounded like i annoy him. Is it a fraud or he is just an stressful landlord? I have copies of the cheque i deposited where i wrote " rental deposit" and record of our email. So if it is a fraud , can i report to police? when shall i do that? Have a friend contact this guy online and ask to rent the place for the exact time you wanted it. If he says it's available and your friend will have to send a deposit, you will have your definitive answer once and for all & we won't have to see this posted a bajillion more times while we all wait for May 8th to roll around. You can sue him for your money back. shoulda expresed ur concern to him and ask him how long his trip is going to take. he prolly just wants to relax during his trip so let him do that. it's not a scam until ur actually scammed Wait until he comes back from his trip. If you have records of what was said and something showing your deposit, then you have nothing to worry about! If the guy fails to do what you asked of him then you might want to lawyer up. You could be on your way to small claims court. It sounds to me like he is a "stressed landlord" who just wants a vacation that has no distractions. Your canceled check, which he cashed, actually serves as a receipt. If he is still acting that way after he gets back from the trip, then I would try to get your money back by talking with police, etc. I would not do anything until then because it may just be that he wants an undistracted vacation. The guys is on vacation - would you want to do business during your vacation? I would be a little annoyed too. And in my opinion, it sounds like you are the one stressed out. Relax, you have a receipt, you printed "Rental deposit" on it. When he gets back from vacation, then get a lease agreement signed. |
