What is your biggest fear about buying a home?

I want to know why more people aren't buying homes. It is supposed to be a buyer's market now, but there aren't many buyers. Are you afraid to buy? If so, why?
If you are waiting to buy, when will be the right time?

People are likely afraid that house prices will still keep falling. Considering the price of the average home, it can be frightening to buy. No one wants to spend $250,000 say on something that tomorrow will be worth $225,000.

The problem is that it is completely impossible to time the market. I.e., you can never buy at the absolute low nor sell at the absolute high. Yet people always try.

Smart investors know that if they think that the prospects for an investment are good long-term, then you buy that investment when everyone else thinks it is not a good investment. You go against the grain.

It's scary to do that though. If you are looking at a house today and it's say $300,000 you might say that is a good price. You are probably not alone in that thinking though. Someone else might say $300,000 is a good price. Maybe three other people do. However, everyone is scared so no one buys.

If all of a sudden the economy improves those three people will be ready to buy. But guess what. That $300,000 house is now $400,000 because there are 4 buyers including you.

Bottom line: there is never a right time. Dont take your cues from what other people are doing necessarily. The smart money buys when everyone else is selling.

The reason why ppl arent buying is because the stock market has been going up and down way too much! Mostly its going down everyday. It is not a buyers market in my opinion. House prices are going down. Houses are no longer worth what they were when you bought it. So how can ppl buy if they cant sell their own house?

Many people are having trouble getting up the down payment . and even if it is a buyers market , buyers will be careful since the job market stinks ... the unemployment rate is going up.

The inspections not coming back good, lol! I am buying a house right now. We got the appraisal back and it was good, so as long as the inspections are good too, it's ours!

being able to sell at a break even or even slight loss if the need arises to change jobs or lifestyle changes. With the way the market is crashing at thousands a month its not a safe deal
