Adyari: Concerning the Nicaragua housing question?

I know Nicaragua housing is not all shacks, but it is unreasonable to me to pay $4000.00 a month for a house that would be available in the USA for $2,500 a month. I just got back from HAWAII and the pricing for housing in Nicaragua IS higher than Hawaii!! and I mean no offense but Hawaii is HAWAII! I just don't get it. Sure some homes in Nicaragua are beautiful, but we are still talking about a 3rd world country, not Europe. BTW I'm from Nicaragua and I KNOW how poor the country is, and I also know that it can be real dangerous; the fact that is rated a safe country might be related to the fact that most crimes go unreported due to the fact that it is a pain to report a crime. Trust me I did my research. I think that you guys need a reality check. My advise is enjoy while you can! It is called a housing bubble and sooner than later it will pop. It did in the US with an avg. income per capita of $34,000 compared to Nicaragua's $420.00 I know is your JOB but please spare me the bull!

And another thing, in your profile you mention that you are "light skinned" what is the relevance of that? Would you add dark skinned if you were? Does it make you better than the other 99.9% of the population in Nicaragua? You must think it does, otherwise you would not even mention it...

1st of all, you mentioned you haven't been here in 30 years, that is a long time for you to be making assumptions about crime and what such. Sure, crimes go unreported, they also go unreported in the U.S. and every other country in the world. There IS crime here, there is no denying it, but compared to the other countries, it has a lower rate. Homicide, for example, is the lowest in the region. If you think crime only refers to pick pocketing and stealing, it doesn't. A countrys overall crime rate is based on much more criteria than that. Costa Rica is the 2nd safest country, and if they didn't have so many property frauds and things of that nature they would be the safest. Research only helps so far, you don't live here so you don't know. As a fellow Nicaraguan, i think before you, your husband, and your children move here you all visit for a week or two. It would be hell to move somewhere that you don't like. Real estate, as i mentioned previously, is high DEPENDING on where you plan to buy/rent. I have also seen exagerated prices on house rentals, its just people trying to get quick cash. I rent a beach front home in San Juan del Sure for only about $500 a month, that is unheard of in the U.S., so you see, not each and every one of us Nicaraguan citizens rent houses for so much money. I also noticed you mentioned something about living in luxury among the poor. I'm sure you are aware Nicaragua ranks as the poorest country (along with Honduras) in this region. Poverty is everywhere but there are isolated communities all around the country for the "spoiled rich". Education here (i'm mainly talking about Managua because this is where i live) shouldn't be too much of a problem, if your kids don't speak Spanish there are English-only schools here, like the American Nicaraguan school which is full of the rich nicas, and mostly asian and white foreigners.

As for my description, why is that the only thing you point out? Its like asking me if i somehow feel superior to my people that i have gray eyes, its irrelevant. My description includes my height, hair color, skin color, eye color, ect. For you to point it out is ridiculous. I don't feel greater than 99.9% of Nicaraguans, these are my people and i work to help them. Hopefully, since Daniel Ortega is back as President again, we can lower the percentage of poverty and help Nicaragua succeed.

Also, you have not mentioned what city you husband is planning on moving to. Managua, while i have lived here all my life, is quite hectic. I can almost assure you that you won't like it here unless you live in the nicer parts. One city, if you have ever visited, that is absolutely wonderful, and im sure you would love, is Granada. Also, because of the large international ex-pat community, your husband will feel more confortable (hopefully) and open up a nice store there. The city is beautiful and inexpensive. There are no traffic problems as there are in Managua and the streets are easier to find. I know how bad Nicaragua was back 30 years ago (maybe not first hand but family and friends have told me), if you haven't visited, you should. Many, many, many things have changed. After all, apart from the poverty and all, this is your homeland, a visit to find out if you would like to move won't hurt. A vacation around this time of year is good, my family got here in the beginning of Dec. and are having tons of fun.

Its more than ok. I am here to help and you are free to email me. You can do that by going to my page and clicking on "send email" on the right hand side. I hope to be of as much help as i can. Report It
