My apartment complex wants to kick me out for loud walking?

I have never had a party here. I don't even have people over. I'm on the second floor and my apt. complex says that my boyfriend and I "stomp" in the morning because they have complaints from the neighbors downstairs.
These complaints started 3 months after we moved in.
We have a notice saying 3 days to fix this issue or we will be evicted.
Can they really kick us out for "loud walking"?
Are they insane??????????????????????????

Thanks for all the irrelevant answers. I do only wear socks. Notice no complaints for 3 months. These are new crazy neighbors. And I have always lived under someone so I know what it is like. I hear my upstairs neighbor all the time and I don't complain because you have to expect certain things in apartments.

Yeah, they can kick you out if there are too many noise complaints. Have you tried talking to the neighbors? Are they just sleep deprived and sleep later than you do or are they truly unreasonable with their expectations for silence in an apartment? What time of morning are they complaining about? If possible, I'd try to make nice with the neighbors. Explain that you are just walking normally.

There are just some noises that you have to put up with in an apartment, particularly when you have the 1st floor unit. Until recently, I had a family of 5 in the one bedroom apartment above mine and the kids wanted to be cheerleaders and did tumbling runs across my ceiling to the point where pictures would fall off my walls. It's just part of apartment living. I draw the line at stereos after 10pm though. To me, that is a reasonable hour to expect some quiet. But I'll go up and ask my neighbor to turn it down instead of calling the property manager.

I lived in an apartment once where the walls were so thin you could hear normal conversations from your neighbors. This hyper-sensitive woman moved in downstairs from us and called the cops constantly with noise complaints about us. We were never actually doing anything loud. One complaint was because we "vacuumed too loudly" --- around 7pm ----it wasn't late at night. Another was called in when we weren't even home. I arrived home from work to find the cops knocking on my door to issue a noise citation to an empty apartment. This woman knew we stayed up late and liked to sleep in so she would get up at 5am and slam all of her cabinets repeatedly to "punish us."

Anyway, the complex didn't kick us out but they refused to renew our lease due to the high number of times the cops had been called on us. It didn't matter that every single noise citation had been tossed out as ridiculous......just that this wench had complained too many times. We hope sumo wrestlers moved in after us!

How early in the morning are you making the noise? Most apartment complexes have "quiet hours" specified in their lease. My next door neighbor used to play his stereo at all hours and I believe he was denied a lease renewal because of complaints.

Just remember that YOUR floor is someone's CEILING and the insulation is probably not adequate. The downstairs neighbors may not be too tolerant to begin with and just like complaining.

yes, so walk softly

you probably don't even realize that your walking loudly, but i live in an apartment too and i live on the bottom and the people who live above me are always jumping around and playing loud music and just making lots of noise, i used to live upstairs on 2nd floor and we never heard the lady downstairs, now that really made us think wow i bet we used to make a lot of noise, some people can tolerate noise and some people cant. Now days I'm sure they could kick people out for disturbing others but you should get at least 3 warnings before they can really do anything. just try to remember they can hear everything your floor is their ceiling

Why don't you only wear socks/slippers around the house. Only put on your shoes right before you walk out the door (at the door).. When you come home take off your shoes.
