About a Condo ?

How much is your average Condo ?

What are some of the problems/expenses involved in having one ?

Pricing depends on location/size, etc etc

I have owned and lived in a condo for the past 8 years. I have not run into much in the way of problems, no more than any problems one would have as a homeowner.

The expenses would be the same as homeownership, except that you pay a Homeowner's Association fee, which pays for landscaping, snow removal, and all exterior repairs.

The selling point for me is that, since I am unable to take care of the exterior of the home, I pay the monthly fee, and if anything needs done, the association is responsible for hiring a contractor and paying them. I don't have to worry about finding reputable contractors.

NOTE TO POSTER BELOW: I understand that even "regular" homes can have an HOA fee, but we are talking about condos here... (note the original quesiton). In addition, the HOA fee on a "regular" home does NOT generally cover any maintenance on the homeowner's parcel. It pays for repairs and maintenance on the common areas.

Thanks for straightening me out, though!

Also, not all condos have shared walls and floors. I happen to live in one where there are two 2-car garages between the living areas.

even 'regular' homes can have HOA fees (note to above poster)

Before going into any condo it is best to speak with some people that live there. Dont be afraid to knock on some doors and ask questions about the management and envirnoment.

Also, look up any complaints that may have been reported about management or the contractors they use.

depending on how your living habits are, you have to understand its basically an apartment you are attempting to own which would have share walls and/or floors. So if you like to play loud music, dont move into one.
