What is the best way to go about getting a job/purchasing real estate in an area where it is difficult to find

my father and I are currently staying with my mother, my cousin, and her 2 year old twin boys in Prince Georges County, MD. I am 21 and in college (supposed to graduate in May 2008), and we are both unemployed. My father has been trying to get a job ANYWHERE where he could do general labor work, and so have I; I have even included my impressive academic resume (since I have never been able to get a job before), and dressed/talked professionaly upon inquiry, but still no job. I am just afraid because sometimes my father acts really wierd (like sexually) around me, and my mother, brother, and sister remain in Troy, NY after my mother met a woman from there online and moved there in May 2006. And I still can't drive (can't afford mandatory driver's ed), so I have to depend on my father to drive me.

Likewise, for some reason all of the housing ANYWHERE in this area, even apartments, is too expensive for us to afford unless at least one of us has a job. So I just need help. What exactly should I do to get a good job when I graduate from college and get into a house/apartment? There are a couple of mobile homes in extreme southern Maryland that are fairly inexpensive, and there is also a naval air station they recently built down there where I may be able to get a job. But would a mobile home in that remote area really be a good idea? I just don't know. And how could I ensure that I got a job at the naval air station since all of my past attempts to get jobs have failed, no matter what I did? I just need to ensure that I get a job once I graduate college.

You say you have an impressive academic resume, but you did not tell us what it is or in what field it is that you have expertise.

A lot of your ability to get a job depends on what training you have.

For example, is your academic training in computer science, electrical engineering, or chemistry?

If you do not have training in one of the basic sciences, I recommend that you check with your financial aid office to see if you can get the financial aid to do an additional major in a basic science field, such as chemistry, engineering or computer science.

Since you are done with most of your college training, you could complete an additional major in computer science, engineering or chemistry in just an additional one to two years.

Many people in college get hoodwinked into taking liberal arts majors, such as sociology because those majors are easy and because they are supposed to be so intellectually stimulating and sensitive and caring.

Unfortunately when you graduate you have no skills that are of any value to anyone and you cannot get a job where you get paid.

For example if you have a major in computer science, engineering, or chemistry, where I live in the silicon valley of California. (Santa Clara County) there are lots of good paying jobs, many of which pay $100,000 per year or more.

However if your academic training is in a field like Sociology, you might be out of luck getting a job anywhere, with the possible exception of a minimum wage job at a hamburger stand.
