How do i represent myself in court, if i am being sued by my landlord, i cant afford an eviction attorney.? |
i cant afford a attorney and would like to represent my self in court, what paper should i have available for the judge, give me a idea of how i should answer my landlords attorney questions. I highly suggest you get yourself a Pre-Paid Legal membership for $17 per month and have a top rated attorney in your area explain your rights to you and that way you will know exactly what you should and should not do. Plus that way you will have the advise of an attorney for a lot more areas of life than just your landlord. Here is the link to get a membership: Obviously you are being sued for non payment of rent. Why don't you get out and live with someone willing to pay your way. The landlord has a right to get paid for his property. can you go to legal aid its for people with certian income guide lines why. is he suing you being your own attorney is not a good idea good luck when you go to court you can request an attorney, but seriously, your landlord will most likely not have a lawyer with him either. He will say you owe him money, the judge will say you have to pay him- dont waste your money trying to get out of it, cuz u wont- there will probably be quite a few evictions and other landlord/tennant cases going on there then. OK, here's what you do: You don't need an attorney but you need to be prepared to prove your side of the story. Any notes, letters, phone calls, emails, dates, times, names of people you spoke with go along way in court. If you do not have anything like the above then just be honest and answer all questions in a timely matter. Do not hesitate no matter what the question is because that shows you are trying to come up with a suitable answer and the judge will not take kindly to it. If you have all the documents written above in place then the judge will listento both sides and make a fair judgement. Otherwise you will probably have to move and pay all court costs plus the rent due. |
