If I moved into an duplex and the heater was broken. Is there anyway to get the landlord to pay the bill?

I'm renting a duplex. When my roommate and I moved in we had heating issues. The landlord called the HVAC company and they said the circuit boards were fried. They fixed it two weeks later. I got my bill from the electric company last week for $300! We don't use much electricty around the house except for heat. She is only willing to take $50 off our rent. Any advice would really help.

The circuit board was fried. It didn't get replaced until 3 days before the meter reading. I'm still not sure if it working properly because the lights flicker when it turns on. The only appliance in the house is a stove. We also don't have a TV bigger then 24" and we have other things besides cell phone chargers.

I would call the electric company and see why the bill is so high. The landlady is really not responsible for paying any part of you electric bill unless it is directly related to the heating problem(bad unit, circuit board...)which may be hard to prove.

No. YOu are unfortunately screwed. All you can do is move out.
