Is real estate home inspection and appraisal a good career choice?

Is real estate home inspection and appraisal a good career choice?

No both are very poor choice right now. I do both, I have been doing home inspections for 4 years and appraisals for 5 years and my income has dropped by 50% in the last year. Yes it may be a buyers market but due to the sub-prime crash less people are able to get loans. Most markets are not increasing and some are losing in value, so you will not be doing refi appraisals. Many home Inspectors are going out of business as same with appraisers. It will take you 2-4 years to become an appraiser and lots of new changes in 2008. You better think twice about it. Check with your state about what it takes to become an appraiser. Good luck

i think they are both good choices. if you compared the costs to be certified or licensed in either field, home inspection is probably less expensive.

It is good as long as home are selling. When the real estate market slows down, so does your income.

ill keep you in business.... but seriously, if its something that intrests you, go for it!! real estate, right now, is a buyers market in most areas, therefore buyers will be seeking home inspections!
