Just moving into my first apartment! Is there anything to make packing not so awful? |
Alright, day 2 of packing! Just got my first on my own apartment (signed the lease today!) and I'm currently trying to pack up all my stuff... fun fun! Who knew a person could possibly have so much stuff?? Well... yesterday the best suggestion I got was dancing, so I thought I'd see what today holds. Any tips, advice, or even stories that will help me get through all this packing?? A good bottle of wine and a great CD, makes even cleaning easier!! Don't forget to Feng Shui! Take this time to toss some things that you really don't need. That will lighten the load. Also, organize things so that unpacking is easier. Mark boxes accurately. Don't make any one box too heavy, especially if you are moving above the first floor. Try to stray from using plastic garbage bags. Helped a friend move yesterday. They snag, rip, and dump all over the place. Well, that's what I got for you! Music and cola! Then roll the clothes that you don't want wrinkled and if they are in dry clean bags leave them that way and don't roll! Put the bathroom in Bathroom marked boxes and mark the linens so you can find them quickly! Do the same for anything kitchen! So you have a way to bathe and eat and sleep on nice clean sheets witha warm blanket in your new home. If you have pets pack all of their stuff in one box marked with their name. Use cloth kitchen towels to wrap dishes for safety. Pans don't need safety. So exciting, I love to move it gives you a chance to get rid of old or broken or paper stuff. and buy a few new things no, packing pretty much sucks. but to make unpacking easier, be sure to label every box. put things in boxes according to what room they go in, not what's in them. then use duct tape and a sharpie and label ' bedroom' or 'living room' or 'kitchen' or 'bathroom' or just whatever. that way when you're unloading the truck, it will be easier to just glance and say, ok that goes to this room and put that here and that one over there. then everything will already be where it goes and you won't be going all over the apartment looking for stuff. and hang in there. it's frustrating, but well worth it. we've moved 9 times in 10 years, and the sad part is three of those places we lived a year or longer! luckily this last one, we bought! be sure to put the plastic cups and plates and stuff near the top of the pile so you'll be able to have stuff to drink and something to eat off of when you first get there tomorrow... unless you plan on ordering pizza for a few days! Definately music. Music will help motivate you, especially upbeat songs. Then you can load up your stuff in boxes. Make sure you organize your things and label the boxes correctly-packing is half the battle! You have unpack too-which is a total pain. Like the last poster said, label by room. Put on your favorite music. It makes it somewhat tolerable when you can sing along to your favorite songs. Invite some friends over to help you pack, make it a packing party. Remember not to pack the boxes too heavy or else it will be difficult to move. Sort your things and label the boxes. |
