My roommate is moving out on short notice-how do we make sure she still pays rent? |
My roommate is moving out less than two weeks before semester to transfer schools. There's me and another girl and we can't pay the rent without her, and we don't want to find a subleaser - plus we can't without rewriting the lease. What's the best way to insure she still covers her portion of the rent since she her name IS on the lease? There really is no way. If you contact the landlord, they will tell you that it is EVERYONE on the lease who is responsible...they don't care how it gets paid as long as it does. Since you are all on the lease, there is no way to ensure that she will pay her part. Sorry. Hehe. There is no way to make her pay rent. This is what is wrong with having a roommate. The will and always do screw each other over. wow you better keep something from her as collateral & when she pays her part of the rent then happily return the item of collateral thanks. |
