Need some help. Moving to a different place.?

I'm planning to move out of town to another state. I want to find an apartment in advance, so I have a place to stay as soon as I leave my home town. I have never done this before. Can someone tell me what I can do? I guess I have to search for a real estate agent? Will a landlord rent to someone without seeing who that person is? Need experienced answer. Thanks

as a past landlord it never use to be an issue to pre-rent to tenants that were moving from out of state. If you explain you have a new job in that area and can furnish references they can check out with your current and past landlords.

one word of advice is to use a reputable property management company. Too many advertise place for rent that they do not even have anything to do with just for people to send them money in advance.

I am hoping you have a job lined up. Many employers are very sheepish about hiring someone "that just moved into town". Generally means the employee will not stay long and will move on elsewhere because they have no ties or past in the area.

Look up Apt. rentals for that city on the net.

You don't need to find a realtor if you will be renting an apartment. Go to Apartmentguide.com or apartmentfinder.com. You can enter the location, price, and ammenities you're looking for and the websites will give you apartment possibilities.

Been there done that, we moved two years ago 8 hours away from our home state, knowing not one sole, we were transfered. I did all my research via the interent, I just put it the large city .com in the area, it showed me all the rental listing in the classified. We did everything via phone and internet, and I over nighted my money so when we got there all I needed was the key in hand.
We were very nervous to make the big move, but here we are two years later and it was the best thing we ever did. Good luck to you, it is hard at first of course you will miss everyone, but look ahead not back and you will be fine, and my close friends are still my close friends even though we are 500+ miles apart.
