I can't SAVE to move out on my own because of my PARENTS!?

Okay. I'm 25, work full-time for a prestigous university but here is the clincher---because of an unemployment rut I went through last year between Feb-July---I had to move from my downtown apartment to living with my parents. I don't pay them rent---and here is why. They BOUGHT their house in full. All they have is utlilitites etc, and my Dad is retired military. I DO help out with groceries, and other major bills when I have it. But I pay $300 for my car note, $100 for my insurance and because of my debt---I have consolidated which is another $200 auto-deducted from my account. I don't make that much. So, occassionaly---I will give my parents $50 each out of my check or like this past check---I gave them both $100 each and my brother $50. (he is 29) Now my Mom is mad because I don't have anymore money to give her. They complain about me spending frivoulously---yet expect me to give them money when they ask. How can I move out and support myself when I can't save because of them??

if your parents want you to move back out: Put together a budget a predetermind amount of money that you will make then deduct a fixed amount for your parents, bills, spending money ect, the balance is your savings it won't get you out next week but watching it grow will make you want to save more.
if your parents don't want you to leave: tell them you spent the money at a bar or loaned it to an exboyfriend they hate secretly stash it under the matress. not only will this give you money saved it might make them think twice about you living with them period.
good luck let me know how it worked out

get a part-time job

I can understand how you feel, I to had to live with my parents after my divorce 8 years ago. I only lived with them for 5 months until I got a job. Don't get me wrong they are terrific and didn't expect any money from me but there is nothing like having your own place. Since you help out with groceries, some utility bills, and give them cash maybe if you added up all that you give them it would add up to what you could pay in rent somewhere, or rent an apt and get a roomate to help with the cost. You may also think about a part time job for a few hours in the evening.

Wait, they let you live there rent free and you are complaining about "giving" them 50 - 100 bucks out of your paycheck. Lucky you aren't my kid, you'd be out on your butt. And why are you giving your brother money? Your problem is not your parents, it's you. Until YOU take responsibility for YOUR problems, YOUR situation will not change.

Go read the book "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey.

And go thank your parents for giving you a roof over your head.

Okay so you work full time, and you鈥檝e listed roughly 700 鈥?750 dollars of obligations. If you work full time where is the rest of your money going? Even if you don鈥檛 make that much you鈥檙e bleeding it out somewhere. Are you shopping, getting your hair done, buying coffee EVERYDAY on the way to work, going out and partying on the weekends?

I use to do all of that and I never had any money left after bills. I was thinking where did my money go? Between the shopping (I really like shoes), hair, coffee (I was a Starbucks fiend), eating out for lunch, etc. There was no money. For 3 months I cut out everything, yes is sucked for the first few weeks. But I got use to it. I managed to pay off all of my debt and had money to get myself going.
