Bank of America or Chase?

My mom uses Bank of America. She opened a checking account for me, in her name, to put my money in. (I'm under 18.) Her credit card, which account my name is also on, goes through Bank of America. So we are over all pretty satisfied with them.

But, I have looked up High School Checking at chase.com, and I have noticed that if my mother signs on, we can have a checking account in both our names, so my money won't legally just be entitled to her, but me as well. Meaning, my check card will be in my name, not just my moms, like the way it is now.

So basically my question is, should I keep my money in Bank of America in my mom's name, or should I ask to close the account with my money in it, and open it in Chase?

Any comments on either banks?
What's your opinion on it?

(The ATM for Chase is a couple more blocks away, but whatever. Exercise is good.)

I just feel more secure with money in my name too, not just hers. It's just me and my mom living together, and if anything happens to either of us, we both need access to an account.

If something tragic happens to my mom, and I need to get my money out of the bank, they will say no because I'm obviously not my mother. But if I go to Chase where both of our names would be on it, I would have access to that cash.

i use chase and i'm pretty happy with it. i had a similar situation to yours and i felt better about having things in my name too.

i absolutely hate BofA. And if i recall lately, it had the highest number of customer complaints in a recent study on yahoo news.

Open an B of A acct yourself when you are 18, you cant open an account yourself before then.

Even though you can do the student account it just has your name there your mother still controls it as you cant sign a contract till you are 18, its a bit deceiving how Chase does this.

chase is sooo much better.
my mother has chase and she loves it.
she never liked bank of america
and if she did ever need something other than chase
then she has wells fargo
but chase is very successful

I have credit cards with Chase and am pretty happy with them. Plus they have branches and ATM's all over the place.

You may want to look for a bank that does not charge allot of fee's. I do know Bank of America does charge a monthly fee for customer who carry a lower balance, I am not to sure about chase. Do some time and shop around. Banks like Washington Mutual has free checking and you can use there ATM card almost anywhere

I have chase. I got it online.
