驴鈾an I afford it鈾?

I want to buy my mom a LV Alma hand bag for Mothers Day,
cost $899.99

I only make $2,000/month
monthly expence is about $700.00
I have $10,000 in savings ( but I don't want to take the money from here)
I have no cc debt ( don't believe in cc)
I only have $106.95 in checkings.

Can i afford this bag?

My recommendation is to not buy it. With only $107 in checking , you don't have enough to buy the handbag without touching your savings, something you acknowledge you don't want to do.

That leaves the option of credit card debt, which you say you don't believe in, and neither do I, by the way.

It isn't how much a gift costs that is important. And, it won't be worth nearly that much once you give it to your mom.

Most moms would rather have time with their children more than anything else. That's what I value the most from my adult children.

Why don't you get your mom something that is less expensive but has special meaning for her. You can even get her some flowers for Mother's Day with the money you'll save!

No you can't afford this bag. $900 for a bag is stupid for someone with lots of money. For someone like you, it's insane.

Of course you can afford that bag. Just show you mom how much you love her.

yes.

if you think you;ll regret it, don't buy it though

it's kind of expensive for a bag. but if you really should get that for your mom, you can take a bit from your savings and also from your monthly salary. you can also make some sacrifices by not indulging yourself on anything for a month or so just to afford the bag.

Man, I could read David M's responses all day in this section. The "personal finance" section is an abyss of bad advice and a cesspool of stupidity. It's good to see people like Dave give sound advice.

No, you can't afford the bag. It's easy to figure this out. Do you have $899.99 a week, every week, to spend on handbags? No, you only have under $500 a week to spend on necessities, and only $106.95 in your chequing account. So you can't afford the bag.

Getting your mum that handbag isn't going to make her happy, or make her love you more. Get her a cheaper, more thoughtful gift. I suggest you find out if she reads a magazine, and then get her a subscription to it for Mother's Day. That way, you can say "Your present is in the mail", and then she gets a surprise. And it is FAR cheaper than a handbag which will go out of fashion in a few months anyway. A subscription is cheaper than getting the magazine at the newsagents, and lasts at least 6 months.

If someone bought me a handbag like that, at that cost, I'd think it was a waste of money. Sure, its nice to get nice expensive gifts, but wouldn't your money be better spent on a spa treatment for her, or something that will give her more lasting enjoyment? She won't feel bad if you don't buy the handbag.

Best wishes

I think it's optional. You're not entitled to paid sick leave; it's a luxury benefit offered by most companies. When you leave, some will cash that out, some will not. Good luck.
