I just got one of the new $5 bills and it has 2006 as the date, could this be worth something someday? The 2006 is not an error. It either has to do with the serial number or the design of the note. The year doesn't reflect the printing date but the design approval date (corresponding to a range of new serial keys). Actually ALL of the 'new' $5.00 bills circulated to date are 'Series 2006'. This is actually NOT a date. Report It The note will ALWAYS be worth $5.00. $5.00 on the other hand, won't be worth as much in the future as it is today. Report It It could be, either many years from now, or if they change the design again. The date has no relevance. The design was approved in 2006, but the notes were only printed in 2008.
