Does the bank automatically change your account type if you go below the minimum?

i have a some kind of premium savings account that has a minimum of $10,000 and recently the ammount went down by like $60. Do i have to call and change the account type or will the bank automatically do it for me

You need to call and make the change. Unless they are different than any bank I have ever done business with, it is your responsibility to change the account type if needed.

They will probably start charging you a monthly fee if you don't meet the minimum balance.

Banks make a lot of money off of fees. In some banks over 50% of their income is from customer fees. They have no vested interest in automatically changing your account type. They like customers who don't monitor their accounts and end up having to pay fees needlessly.

It depends, they might just charge you a monthly fee if you can't meet the 10k in the premium account. You need to call them and ask them.

They can. I have a passport savings. If the balance falls below $200 there is a $4 charge per month until you get it back up over $200.

No, the bank will not change the type of account. You will have to either call or go to the bank to have it done. Even if you call, you and anyone else listed on the account will have to sign new signature cards for the account. Also, since your account has fallen below the minimum before the account type was changed, you will be charged a service fee of anywhere between $3 and $10.

In most cases, they CHARGE A FEE for going below the stated minimum. If the fees wipe out your balance, they can close your account and charge you the the 'overdraft'. They CAN change the account type, but it is safest to bet whatever choice they make will be the one the costs you the most. If you want your account type changed, contact the bank and say so.
