If i get a car and can't make payments and a family member, who's name is on the contract too has the car i don |
know where the family member is with the car, can i go to jail?! The transaction just happened on Wensday. I didin't say my daughter took off and failed to make payments. She promised me if i pretended to be the one purchasing the car she would make the payment. I trust her so i did it. No, but they will try to take it, the most they can do if you continue to run is take you to court to obtain the full balance.. maybe depends how much you owe. and how the car leasing company decides to take action. You might want to get a hold of the person you make No, but your credit rating is in jeopardy, which might not seem like a big deal compared to jail but it will limit your ability in the future. It will also affect the cosigner's credit rating. Now if you don't know it is, it might be considered stolen which is a whole other set of issues. they co-signed so they can be held responsible-you dont go to jail for not making payments on a car-the car is just as much your family members car as yours This is a possiblity what does your contract say? read it from top to bottom, or just call them and they can help you or guided you thru it. No. However they can pursue you to pay the car loan if you signed for it on the loan as well. And if it is not paid you will get a non-payment mark on your credit report and if they get a judgment, if it goes that far, the can garnish your wages. They can't send you to jail unless you are committing fraud and they can prove it. no jail time but your credit is shot if the family member isn't making the payments on it. No you would not go to jail for this. It is a civil dispute not a criminal one. If you honestly do not know where the car and the family member is, you absolutely will not go to jail. |
