I live in Texas and am being harassed by a Law office for a debt I owe ($1500.00) from over 3 years ago.?

This man will absolutely NOT stop calling my office. They have been calling on and off for a year and 1/2 now. They will not take any kind of monthly payment and are very rude and uncooperative.

They do not have to accept a monthly payment. However, if you are sued by them, you need to make sure you have proof you offered this and they declined it.

I would draft a letter stating your proposed settlement and also telling them they can only contact you through the mail. Send it certified return receipt requested. Keep your receipts. You are within your rights to have them cease phone calls. If they continue after receiving this (which you will have proof of), it is harassment.

Since you are still within the statute of limitations, you will need to work out a method of dealing with the debt. Tape record your phone conversations with them, especially when you tell them not to contact you at work. Also, ask them if they have any type of settlement offer. Many "law offices" (which are usually just collection agencies with legal letterhead) will settle for a percentage of the debt.

They must allow you a down payment option,if it does not work you can always go to court.

Send them 50.00 and an explanation of your situation. Promise to continue to make 50.00 payments until the matter is resolved.
Send your letter certified with a signature for proof of delivery. Had you sent them 20.00 a week this would be behind you, but I don't think they cannot legally insist that you pay in full. Good luck- and by the way, if you are not the owner of the business you can surely have them stop calling you at work, I'd include that in your letter to them. ( Tell them you're worried about getting fired for wasting company time talking about you old debts.) Last but not least, ask them what they would settle for should you pay it all at one time. I think they call it an offer of compromise. again good luck!
