What do you need to show in order to cash a cheque in England if you don't have a bank account? |
I am hoping someone who works in a UK bank can answer this question. Examples from other countries won't be helpful. I work for a major uk bank & know she will not be able to cash a cheque at your bank as cheques can only be cashed in person by the drawer (you) or presented through a bank account. Each and every bank has very different rules, passport, driving licence, birth certificate, utility bill- that about covers it. no, you can not cash it You make the cheque payable to ''Cash'' and she would have to take Evidence of Identity in the form of a Passport or Photographic Full Driving Licence. Some evidence of domicile would be required too. She might have to pay a fee for the service. Take some form of photographic ID - passport, driving licence, ID Card- and something to prove residency such as a utility bill, bank statement, TV licence bill, etc. carolyn is right, she can't cash it. you would be able to cash it as it is your account, she would only be ale to pay it in a bank account held in her name. No amount of id will enable her to cash it. I am sure Carolyn and Gill are right. It was once possible to write a cheque for cash, but this was stopped years ago. It now needs to go through a bank. If you have to give her a cheque, maybe it could be in the name of someone who has an account and could give her the cash. Most pre-printed UK cheques are "crossed" (two lines down the middle) and have the words "A/C Payee" on them, which means that even if it is made out to "cash", it still has to be paid into a bank account. She won't be able to cash it over the counter. THE ONE AND ONLY WAY would be for her to open a bank account in her name a passport driving licence and utilty bill will be require to open a bank account. |
