What is the "front" of a shopping cart, the part where a kid can sit, or the part where the food goes?

This is really a "poll" type question. I've found an interesting trend in the way people answer it.

The part where the food goes is considered the front. Where the baby sits is the back. Haven't you heard Mothers in the grocery store saying to their child, " I'm going to put you "back"in your seat.

which way is it designed to be pushed ? altho.. i have seen some strange stuff people do in stores
