Between these jobs which one is the best in pay and good atmosphere? Travel agent or medical coding (billing)?

I'm going back into the work force after being out of a job for almost 2 years. First time mom, so I wanted to be there for her first year. Now that she is almost 2, I want to go back to work and I feel out of the loop. These are my two choices but I dont know which one to choose because I'm looking into the $$ side and also I don't want to work in a place that in time I might hate it. So please help me with some input :) Thank you.

Travel agent, providing you are good at sales

Medical Coding, providing you don't mind dealing with a customer service & lot's of complaints.

I would imagine both jobs will require attention to detail & carefully listening to what people have to say.

You would think that dealing with people who are about to go on holidays would be more pleasant than dealing with people paying a bill. But you will also be dealing with a lot of people who will be just wasting your time.

If you are going back into the workforce, you probably want to mix with different people - which of the two jobs will give the most opportunity for mixing with people?

Travel Agent may pay more through commissions.

If the two jobs pay similiar, then which one do you think you will like more? Working in an office is very different to working in a shop.

So there you go, I've just talked myself into working in a nice office, with nice people around me who all understand the problems of working in a billing office. Now I don't have to put up with working in a shop, giving travel advice to people who might or might not travel.

What a great life I have.

My choice in your situation would be medical billing. You can work at home, or set your own hours, or in an office. It does pay quite well, I believe-my sister in law did this for a while. So did a friend who did it in college.

Being a travel agent is a tougher challenge nowadays. Just think...travelocity...etc. Why should someone call you, when with a few clicks they can set their own travel plans? You would have to find a niche I think in order to succeed in that business in today's world.

Court reporters can make a boatload of money. They can take depositions outside of a courtroom as well. They charge for the actual reporting, but then they charge hundreds of dollars for copies of the report they make. You might consider that as well. I think it might be a career with even more income potential then either of the two choices you mentioned.
