Is the U.S. Navy still hiring Marine Biologists and Zoologists to train harbour seals to find old sea mines?

When I told someone I had just met I was interested in Marine Biology, they mentioned that the U.S. Navy would hire me in a heart beat to train seals to seek out sea mines left from old wars to help deactivate them. Since then I have found no information about it. Anyone know anything?

Here is a news article...I don't see this about "seals."

I see it with Dolphins. Apparently using underwater cameras attached to them. You can read more about it here. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,8217...

That's about all I could fine. I've never heard of training 'seals' to do anything. Unless it's Navy SEALs (SEa, Air and Land)...which would be people. :-)

This news story is dated March 26, 2003.

So I'm not sure...but you might want to search places like the Yahoo news archives for things related to seals/dolphins and mines. Search using terms like "using dolphins to find mines" or "using seals to find mines." I did a google search and came up with things like the above article.

Are these seals like super seals or something, sounds a little complicated for them.
