What is the best book to get for homeworking ideas? & how do you become a homeworking medical transcriptionist

What qualities do you need, what qualifications and experience would be useful? Thanks

Most employers require experience or participation in one of the top AHDI approved schools. If your looking into Medical Transcription pay the extra in tuition to attend an 'approved' school. Attending any other school would be a waste of your time and money. Many people have received training through inadequate programs only to find out that they are unable to find a job. AHDI sets the standards for MT courses. Employers know that graduates of these 'approved' courses have gained the skills necessary to begin their career as an MT.

Check out: http:// mteducationonline. com (remove the spaces). It is an affiliate site for Career Step. I attended Career Step and recieved a job (at-home) less than a week after graduating. Career Step is an AHDI approved program and they are partnered with many of the major MT employers. In other words, their graduates get the jobs. Many companies require 2-3 years experience, however, a lot of these companies will waive this requirement if you graduate from the right school.

I recommend CS because they are partnered with MANY employers, self-paced (you can finish in a few months or take as long as over a year or two), and more affordable than the other top 2 courses.

Attending your local community college will give you a good chance at a job in-house, but if you are wanting to work from home, an online 'approved' course is the way to go.
They do offer financial aid and payment plans. :)

------ AHDI is the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (formerly known as the American Association for Medical Transcription).

It is possible to work at-home as an MT, but chosing the right school is SO important!

After you receiving the proper training, many employers will waive their 2-3 year experience requirement. The school you attend should be able to tell you which employers will hire their graduates. Use this as a starting point when looking for your own Medical Transcription position.

Good luck! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

you have to have training to be a transcriptionist. you'd need medical classes and anatomy classes. then you'd need to know how to work the machine. a lot of places want you to work at their hospital, or clinics for up to 2 yrs before they let you do it from home.

For homeworking as a medical transcriptionist, Google 'Dictate'
- you need experience, a good typing speed, good medical terminology and I think they want a commitment of at least 16 hours per week.
