How much do flight attendents make? Would it be weird for a guy to work as one?

I want a career involving traveling but don't want to be a truck driver or join the military. Flight attendent is about all that's left.

In the US not very much.
Don't forget, most airlines are in very big trouble.
Most workers took huge cuts in salary.
Matince workers, pilots, flight attendants.
I over heard on United how one lady's salary was cut in half.
I would think they make in the 30,000.

Flight attendants are very underpaid. There is also a huge backlog of furloughed flight attendants with the majors. (For example, the TWA employees that American acquired.)

Go for it if you like. Men have been standard in the business for 30 years now. Even if you are openly flirting with women, the old men will think you're gay.

It would not be weird at all, if you enjoy traveling, do it. And you get great benefits, working for an airline ;)

Salary depends on which airline. But there are lots of male flight attendants.

And there are lots of other jobs that involve travel. Sales comes to mind. Lots of construction jobs require travel. How about travel agent or tour guide.

One thing you will learn is that living out of a suitcase eventually becomes very old. You often don't really get to see the sights cause you're working.

Wow. Even though there are lots of male flight attendants, that's far from the only work you could go after.

10 travel careers that I can think of off the top of my head:

1. Any job on a cruise ship, from steward, to kitchen help, to activities, to entertainment, to crew.
2. Oil tanker or other shipping jobs.
3. Travel agent / Tour director.
4. Courier.
5. Foreign service officer (aka, diplomatic corps)
6. Peace Corps
7. Corporate Sales
8. Non-profit International anti-poverty or disaster response plans.
9. Conference/convention organizer for corporations
10. Importer for furniture or home design stores.

Anyway, here's one website's report on the average salaries of flight attendants:

"According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average yearly earnings of flight attendants in 2006 were $56,150.

"Although flight attendants are guaranteed a minimum monthly salary, they can earn incentive pay for flying extra hours. Serving on international flights, working holidays, and taking on additional responsibilities are all other ways to make more money."

It will be a good method of seeking traveling job. If you like - try working for International Air lines. As China and India are exploding economically - the Airline demands also have risen exponentially.

In fact in 2006 - 50% of all New Plane orders were from India's Air Lines.

Anyway my point is - As Airline Flight Attendants pays are not so good in US - you may make more money working for Intl Airlines and get the some traveling benefits.

To check the Salary info - I would suggest -
www.Salary.com :

For a Zip Code of Los Angeles - it gave me following range:

Minimum: 43K, Highest: 77K Median: 52K.
Please note that in Flight Attendants carrier - Age of Employment with the specific company matters a lot to define
the seniority and Pay.

Good Luck with your search.
Hope this helps.
