Finding a job while homeless? |
How much trouble is it going to be for me to find a job while homeless? How do I get around saying that I'm homeless to potential employers besides outright lying to them? I have a working cell until the end of January, so I guess I'm lucky in that regard. I'll be homeless Jan. 1st. Surely you know someone OR there is a shelter (try private religious) in the area that will allow you to use an address for the time being. how are you using a computer? are you at a library? Do you have a friend/relative that will let you use thier adress for just employement purposes? Otherwise maybe try nonprofit companies, thier more understanding with people than big employers, and not so judgemental. I'd say renting a P.O. Box is a good idea, and make sure to keep it paid and going as a priority. As for a home address....where are you stying? With a friend or relative? Just ask if you can use their address. If you're on the street or in your car, find a shelter where you can not only stay when it's cold or things become dificult, but also as a place to pick up mail ( a "home" address). Most shelters encourage this for people who are looking for emplyoment. Look to renting a private mailbox at a mailing center rather than postal PO box. It wont stick out like a sore thumb. In your situation I would try day labor or contract labor. Seek help from those who love you and want to help you by letting them know you are going to help yourself. Go to a shelter (to get off the street during the cold) plus they may help you get a job. Home Depot will hire people who have been in jail. Don't know which city you are in but know you need to be very careful. Maybe use your last address for home address or write down street address of the cell. |
