How do get a Certified Forklift Operating Permit?

How do I get a Certified Forklift Operating Permit, so I can obtain a forklift operator position at a warehouse? Where would I go locally? What are the regulations?

It's no wonder that the person with the previous answer has their name as kicked off yhoo. Their info is incorrect. It is an OSHA policy (OSHA is funded by the government) So therefore it is required by law.
One way to get a certification is through the equipment companies that sell them. If you can find out the brand of forklift of the desired warehouse that you wish to be employed, that would put you one step ahead. You can locate who sells that brand and they can assist you.
