Tips on answering these interview questions...?

They are actually pre-interview questions for an online application. Would you have any tips on how to answer them, what to focus on, what they are looking for, what kind of examples to give etc. I am a mechanical engineering undergrad applying for an engineering placement.

What has been your greatest achievement so far? What was your role, and how did you involve other people?

Tell us about a time when you were part of a peer group and there was a problem. What happened and what did you do?
(Please complete in a maximum of 250 words) *

The key is to make everything sound positive. Most places want to hear about how well you get along with other people and how well you work in groups.

For the first question,- you could write about when you worked with your classmates and completed a tough assignment and how you all worked together to complete it. Briefly detail the assignment and what you did and how you worked with other people to make it a success.

Second question: you could mention a challenge you experienced while completing the assignment and how you all worked together to find a solution. Maybe someone in the group didn't complete their part -- you could discuss how you all worked together to resolve the issue.

Even if you had serious issues and fighting in the group, don't mention that. Try not to phrase anything as a negative and don't talk bad about people. Regardless of how poorly other people acted, it will reflect badly on you if you mention it.

They are most likely looking for things such as leadership and ability to work well within a team.

What they are looking for is a sense of context about you. How you get along and work with others. Are you a self-defeating person or can you work your way out of a difficult or challenging situation, etc.

Give these questions great thought.
Keep it positive. Don't give them a reason to have doubt about your character.

Your accomplishments don't have to be spectacular. Include examples of your leadership and contributorship in a challenging situation. How did you overcome the challenge.

Keep you answers focused.

Good Luck!
