17 year old job. Can I get a better one then i have now and where?

I am currently 17 year old, male who works at kroger in texas.

I work as a Floor Supervisor, which is in charge of the front end and to make sure that the customers are being taken care of and the employees are doing there job.

I currently make 6.40 and work about 32 hours a week. I applied to a couple of places but i haven't had any of them call me back. I was just curious of places that would be good to apply to where i could make a better amount(I need to start looking for a job where i can live in a apartment with a roomate becuase of college comeing up).

It sounds like you have a good amount of experience at 17 - especially with the supervising you've been doing. You don't really say where you've put in the other applications - or how long they've been out there. But this may be the time to follow up. Just that one additional action can set up apart from other applicants.

If that doesn't help, take a look at your resume (or get one if you don't have one) and see if you can spruce it up a little. Appearing professional in your resume, application and appearance can go a long way in that first impression - which may get you an interview and ultimately the job.

Once you have that lined up, try looking for work outside of the service industry which can be notoriously low-paying (unless it's a high-end restaurant). Some possibilities might be part-time office work or delivery driver (like UPS). Night shifts can pay premiums over other shifts because no one wants to work them (although at 17 this might not be the best choice for you).

It really depends on where you live; most jobs are regional, as are pay rates; in MA, that's below minimum wage. I'd suggest looking in your local newspaper and posting a resume at hotjobs.com, careerbuilder.com, and monster.com. Also consider asking your current manager/boss for a raise.

Good luck!
