UK only.........Self certification Q......See below for details plz?

I work in a nursing home & I'm due back to work later today but I'm ill. Got a god awful cold & hacking cough that's keeping me awake. I'm really not fit for work.
I know normally you self cert for 7 days then have to produce a certificate from the G.P. but my employers have put a sign up at work saying between 24th Dec & 2nd Jan we must produce a G.P's certificate for any sick days immediately. Can they do they this?

It will be my 1st day off & prob only day off as I'm not due in again till Sunday. I resent having to pay for a sicknote when it's only a 6 hour shift & I am genuinely ill.

(I'd prob kill off half the residents if I infected them with this b*tch of a cough. 鈽?

Is this right? Can they do this?

Legally, i don`t think a Doctor has to write you a sick note until 7 days but i was ill once and told the DR my employers were giving a disciplinary to anyone off sick and he signed me off for 2 weeks, i went to him in the first couple of days of having a virus.
My son did the same and the DR just wrote a note to his employer to say that he had examined him and he was ill, there was no charge either time.
Dr.s are open tomorrow and if you are sick you are sick.

phone them in the morning and see what they say. dont think there is a GP open is there? there all out partying over the new year. lol

WHY NOT TELEPHONE THEM,, AT LEAST THAT MAKES THEM AWARE OF WHATS GOING ON .. THEN ASK THEM THE QUESTION..
WRAP UP WARM AND TAKE CARE
