Would you hire a person with tattoos?

This questions is mainly directed toward those over 30 yrs. of age, who have been responsible for hiring / interviewing new employees at a company.
Would an applicant's visible tattoos influence your decision to hire / reject them? Please state reasons. Thank you!

It depends upon the position. And the tattoos in question.

We have employees who have tattoos -- they are generally in the housekeeping and maintenance positions. But, for office help, we prefer that tattoos be covered, because the office staff is constantly dealing with the public.

I have three tattoos myself, and I am 50. They are not visible in my work clothes. I'm not prejudiced against tattoos, but know that a certain segment of the population is -- therefore those in our organization who deal with the public must keep their tattoos hidden.

wats on da outside doesnt show da inside
so i would get 2 no dem to c to reject or to hire

Yes.
Just because they have tatoos doesn't mean they are going to be a sucky employee.
You never know.
Maybe they will be your best.

I know this question is directed toward adults, but I'm 15 and actually a lot more mature than my age suggests. I believe that a person's personal body art shouldn't at all influence someone hiring them. Unless the business requires them to work with the public and they have visible tattoos on the face or something, then really it shouldn't be a big deal at all. Just my opinion[:

Just because someone has tattoos doesn't mean you shouldn't hire them. If they are good people and will do the job right, hire them!

Yes, some of my best workers have tattoos, in both conspicuous and inconspicuous places

Unless they had hateful imagery or words in them, it wouldn't influence me one way or the other. :o)

i would because tattoos doesnt say anything about a persons character so yes i would!!!

I would hire a person with tattoos.

I would hire the person based on their skills, experience, and how professional they look (suit, dress, etc...)

It would depend on the position they are being considered for. If that person has direct relations with my clients/customers and their appearance can affect my business than I would not.

However, it also depends on who my clients are and what company I'm hiring for. If the clients will generally be younger, a generation more forgiving of those tattoos, then it wouldn't be a big deal.

But, if I'm staffing for a retirement home, then maybe not so much.

if the person was qualified for the job I would hire, if the person had a complete tattoo face mask, then probably not, not because I objected, just because I think it would bring to much attention to him and away from the work

yes because it really doesn't mean anything if they have tattoos its not like they are in gangs-hire them based on responsibility -ask questions to find out if they are responsible and if they dint have problems. ex. in gangs ,vandalism, ext

I would have to take it by a case by case basis. I love tattoos, however in my line of work, we meet with a lot of medical professionals who sometimes look down on that. Same with piercings, if someone has their lips pierced they're probably not going to get hired. Again, it all depends where and what/

yes i would hire someone with tattoos. that is considered discrimination if you don't hire them just because of tattoos.

Just because someone decides to get a tattoo does not mean they are a bad person. it just means something in there life was important enough that they wanted to remember it.

if your business has a policy about showing them you can ask them to keep the tattoos covered. but that would have to be a policy.

as someone in HR with tattoo's i say no it shouldn't. you wouldn't believe some of the most interesting ppl that i have met with tattoo's and besides not hiring someone just because they have tattoo's is discrimination. all in all most ppl don't hire ppl with tattoo's is because they think down on ppl with tattoo's and that is wrong....but if the person is qualified and there tattoo is not offensive id say give them a chance..

if its visable, reject them. Working in a place where they would have interaction with customers, you don't want that to be a turn off to potential customers.

The hard truth of the matter is, if people have tattoos on their hands, neck, or face, it will affect their employability in some fields. I would not hire someone with these to be a salesperson for higher-end merchandise or other conservative positions, like banking.

having been a person in the exact position for more than one company over the years that had to hire and train and fire people, i will tell you that the tatoo is ONLY relavent to the job, not the person. I person, for example, in a position of - say - receptionist, would not look good with a tat on his/her neck...it boils down to the job in question and how the perspective customers may or maynot react. Of course if the tat is NOT visible the quesiton is mute.

Any good tattoo establishment will advise against visible tattoo's. for the exact reasons you have giving.
Since i have 3 none visible i would probably hire someone regardless of the visibilities.
But i don't work with the public or anyplace posh.
Most employers think it would set a bad image to do so
but depending on clientele.
After all my grandfather had a tattoo on his arm of the army.
sometimes generational things are seen differently.

yes. cover them up

It would depend on the size and type of tattoos, and the job I was hiring them for. If their whole body was covered, or if they had very prominent tattoos and their job required a lot of customer contact, I probably wouldn't be real eager to hire them. If the tattoos were reasonable tasteful, and their job was in an office or cubicle, I don't think it would matter.

It would depend on a variety of factors. What are the tattoo's of? What are they being hired for? etc etc etc. Need more info to give you an informed answer
