What should I do right now at my job ??

I had an interview with my current employer 3 weeks ago for a "field service technician position"

But 2 days ago he hired me as a "secretary" (because his secretary quit - due to her personal problems )
and promised me , i will get to start an entry level job as an electrician soon.

Now this is the 3rd week . And last week he hired another "women" secretary .

Now I am sitting here, cluless , because I am not sure what kind of work I am supposed to do around here ?

When I was working , i was taking down messages, calling people up , faxing stuff, receiving faxes.
Now that this new girl is hired.. I am just sitting here, trying to help her , making myself look busy.

OH , BY THE WAY , His "Electric " business opens on the 2nd of January ( he has like 3 small companies ) .. It's the Electric Business I want to be a part of . Not the other ones.

There's only like 3 more days for January 2nd .

To be honest , I am kind of worried. because I want the "Electric Job" , and Right now I am just sitting duck at his office. And I don't feel so useful , I feel like he would catch me doing nothing and just fire me or something , Which is stupid , because he's the one who should be giving me something to work on ..

oh man.. , What should I do in this work place?

I'm sorry to answer a question with more questions, but two things occur to me:
1) Is it possible that he's planning to start you as a field service person when the business opens next week?
2) Have you considered asking him what are his plans?

(My money's on #1.)

Sounds like he's taking advantage of you. Are you a qualified electrician?
