Why is it impossible to get a job at fourteen years old?

I know theres insurance issues, but cant you give a kid a break?

It isnt really impossible in arkansas to get a job at fourteen because you can get a work permit here at that age but its still IMPOSSIBLY hard

Actually it is not impossible. I am emplyed and i am fourteen years old. I actually make some nice amount of money too! I founded a small printing company when I was six years old. (okay i really only printed gift tags) But now I have a sectary and some sales reps. Last year I printed and shipped over ten thousand labels and nearly ten thousand business cards. When laws are made their goal is to balance different interests. In this case some 14 year olds want to work and some of those will have good jobs, but there is a danger that young children will enter into employment contracts that take advantage of them. It is assumed that minors are not as capable as people over the age of consent to determine what is in their own best interest so the law protects them. Even though it costs minors some lost freedom on the whole they benefit from the increased protection.

it is illegal, child labor laws and such, most places you can get a permit at the age of 15, and work without a permit at 16

Well, the reason it is imposible to get a work permit when you're fourtten is because during the industrial revolution big bussiness exploited children, making them work for many hours for little pay. Factories did this to all of their employees and so the workers organized into unions and went on strike, forcing the factories to change their treatemnt of employees. Also during this time the American Government was pressured to change the working conditions of employees and restrict the amount of hours a person could work, how much someone would be payed (a.k.a minimum wage), and how old a person had to be to be hired.

Though, you can still make money without a work permit.

There are some jobs you can get if your parents sign some forms. You can bag groceries, bus tables at the nicer restaurants, and you can sometimes get a job at a hospital delivering flowers, mail and such. Mostly it is because you can't work around certain equipment, but these jobs don't require that. Good luck!

if you still want to have a job, enrol online. but, dont use ur real date of birth.put it as 18yrs/above, preferably in ur parents name. by doing easy online jobs, can earn a lot. u can have the salary transffred to your parents account.

There are child labor laws that limit the number of hours that a minor can work, especially while in school. This makes it difficult for employers to hire a teenager when they may need full time workers or even part-time workers over 20 hrs a week. Also, it is quite expensive to train a teenager and many companies aren't willing to shoulder the costs of training someone that has a high turnover rate, is limited on availability, is always wanting time off for school/social events. It is a risk and hassle many companies don't want to take.

i know sweetie i was 14 not too long ago and i hated it..if u were in nyc i would tell you to wait until the summer..we have summer youth employment for kids your age..

Child labor laws is why. - very limited types of work and hours you're allowed to work until you're 16 and even then - limited hrs during school year
