Where to look careers in politics?

I am interested in Politics for a career. i cannot pick up and move to DC to intern for a Senator for low pay even though i would like to. i want higher paying job in private sector. i want to find jobs locally or regionally that lobby for their company. I assume these are hard to come by and not advertised. there are only 5 or 6 Fortune 500 companies in my smaller city. working in my home state and going to Washington once and a while on behalf of a company would be a cool job. any websites?

My suggestion would be to start by majoring in government or in law. Most lobbyists are lawyers, I believe. You'd be surprised at where you can find lobbyists - even city attorney's offices and district attorney associations have them (to lobby for appropriate criminal laws).

You'd probably have to move around in the field to get such a job, I don't think you can get an entry-level lobby job. I think it's about making connections mostly.

Good luck!
