How to adjust to new job?

I recently got a new job where I can only take so much vacation time, etc. I also don't get of until after 5 p.m. each day and I don't get home until after 6 o'clock. At my old job, I could take off whenever I wanted to and I was out of there by like 2 or 3 everyday.

Even though this new job pays better and has better benefits, I am having a really hard time adjusting to it. It is especially hard since my whole family is home for the holidays having fun while I am at work.

I am very grateful I have a job - and it's not a lazy thing. I just really can not adjust and I need some advice. When I called home today and everyone was in the background laughing and playing I nearly broke down. Help!

It will take some getting used to. By this time next year you will have a been there for a while and you will be used to it. You are making more money and you are helping your family while you can't be there. Also most jobs you can't just take off whenever you want so this is just helping you get prepared for the rest of your life. I know it is hard but you are doing the best thing for your family and yourself

What you're adjusting to is greater responsibility and less slack off time. It may not be a lazy thing to you but it does show in this post. You're getting far too emotional and it does not bode well for your professional status.

Work hard, enjoy the better pay and benefits, and be thankful you're in a position that values hard work. I tend to find that jobs that allow you to slack off never get anything done...it only seems that way.

You really just have to suck it up and deal with it and learn to get used to it. You have traded a good amount of your free time in exchange for more salary and benefits; no job is perfect and there's always a trade-off. When you can't deal with the extra couple of hours in the office, think about your bigger paycheck and your better insurance.

You really did have it easy in your last job, being able to take off whenever you wanted and get home so early. In most fulltime jobs you will be expected to work 8 hours per day and you generally get 20 days paid holiday with additional stat days (ie Bank Holidays etc) But this varies from job to job. I work 9am - 5:30pm Monday to Friday and have to leave my house at 7:30am to get into work and don't get home til after 6:30 pm depending on traffic.

In my last job I worked 8am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 1pm on Fridays - But in the job I'm in now, I am earning 拢6000 a year more.

Trust me, it does get easier, and the extra money is always great =]
