Job for 14 year old?

I'm 13, but 14 on May 1st and I want to know where I can look for a jobs available for people my age, or the kind of places I can work.

Ideas for 14 Year Old's JobsLoading - please wait...

Editable by Any Member / edit note
Some family restaurants will hire for dishwasher/bus-boy/girl with parental consent.

- He/she could shovel snow for people in the neighborhood. And in summer mow lawns, pull weeds.

- Some places that sell ice cream/ice cream stands offer jobs for 14 year olds.

- Supermarkets, especially bagging groceries. Many grocery stores in some areas hire at 14. For example, A&P, Publixs, Kroger.

- Fast food restaurants. Some fast food places hire at 14, e.g. McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Subway. Fancy restaurants will not hire you as a waiter.

- If you need a job ask your parents to mow grass, water plants, watch children, help out old or young people, paper boy, build things from stores, ask to put things in certain racks at like gas stations or any other place you might visit, you can be a sweeper at a hair place or and resturant, fast food place.

- You might be able to get a CPR license and get a summer job as a life guard.

- I now work at a horse farm. I help at parties, I groom the horses, and I do other stuff. You should choose somthing you like. If you like animals then you could help out at a shelter.

- I used to work at my church watching the younger children in the nursery.

- I work at a local bowling alley, they have a room for parents to drop off their children while they bowl on leagues. The bowling alley pays me because this way they get more people to sign up for leagues. Sometimes parents will also tip.

- Work at a "Pick-Your Own" Farm. You will get paid a decent amount. For example, in the fall you can go to apple orchards and offer to pick up the apples that have fallen on the ground. I used to do this and get paid 50 cents a basket. This may not sound like much but the basket fill up quick and it still leaves time for other part time jobs.

- You can start your own worm beds and sell the worms for fishing.

- Offer to help clean out peoples garage, barn, attic, basement, etc. They will pay you to clear out the clutter. If theres stuff worth saving that they want to get rid of you can then have a garage sale to earn even more money.

- Look for stuff at garage sales that might sell good on ebay. Remember to bargain at the garage sale, the less you pay the more you will make when you resell the item.

- Paperboy.

- Babysitter.

- Walk dogs or pet sitter.

- Look around your local corner shops, farmshops, charity shops to see if they have any availibilities.

- Camp counselor. Or look at summer camps and after school programs to work with children. Programs are always looking for extra help with the little ones at schools

- You can, actually, get a job at 14 if you live in a state that allows it (California, for example). Most places aren't normally willing to hire 14 year olds, but present yourself to them professionally and you'll definitely impress them. For the child labor laws, just do a search for "[your state] child labor law" obviously plugging in [your state] with the state you live in.

- Do work for your neighbors, e.g. lawn, landscaping, or cleaning out garages

Jobs for 14-Year-Olds
It depends on the State you live in. Try using the Google search form to the right and typing in "At what age can a minor work and receive pay?"

If you are too young then you could work in a grocery store as a delivery boy, stocking shelves, etc. You could do "odd jobs" for neighbors like mowing their lawns, fixing fences, painting those fences, etc. You can baby-sit for neighbors and possibly put a few notices you've made up on lamp standards, etc., to advertise baby-sitting services. You can "dog walk." There are many people that have to leave their dogs at home and would love a dependable person to come in a walk their dog for good exercise.

Here is more input and advice:

I admire you for wanting to work at such a young age.

Don't get a job. Not at 14, once you start working you can never stop.

Hope This Helps:]
Also heres a good site for places thats hiring

It's against the law in most states for any formal business to employ minors under the age of 15. Most business aren't even interested in hiring kids that age, let alone 14 year olds if it is legal in that state.

Unless you personally know people that would hire you, it's extremely unlikely that you could get a job at your age.
The only thing I can think of is caddying.

Unfortunately the only jobs widely available to 14 year olds are paper rounds. Anything else is considered child labour, unless it is your dad paying you to wash the car!

However, paper rounds can be pretty good earners ;)
I'm 15 in June, but I earn 5 pounds (10 dollars) per day for my round, and it only takes half an hour!

Most places don't hire kids until they are 15 or 16. In my state, you can't even get a minor's work permit until you're 15. You can get some work experience at your age through volunteering, like at a hospital or senior center. When you get old enough apply for jobs at grocery stores, ice cream shops, Hobby Lobby and places like that. I saw a young girl working ay Hobby Lobby once.

Unless you work for your parents or friend of family, your options are limited but when you think about working for yourself a whole new lightbulb could go off by using your skills and interests to start up a profitable part-time job for yourself as an entrepreneur. You can sell products or provide services for others by finding and filling a need. There are many things you can do but it's important to focus so you can give 100% to what you're doing. You can buy and sell video games. You can clean aquariums. You can plan parties. You can teach juggling or guitar or whatever you do well. You can paint rooms. You can host yard sales for your neighbors. You can design websites. You can perform puppet shows. You can sell popcorn or homemade desserts. You can wash cars or wash outdoor furniture or sell vitamins or ???. You see there are alot of things you can do but only YOU know what'll work for you. Check your local library for books like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie & Noel Drew. Be the best at what you do and you'll be the "go to" guy for the industry. Start with some obtainable goals, develop a plan, and then cross off your acomplishments one by one.

When I was 14, I went through this program at my local career center. They set me up with a job at Culver's (oddly enough, someone above my answer worked there at 14 also.) I just had to spend a Saturday at the career center to learn some things about my job.

I don't know if they have programs like this in any other states. Good luck!

Best place to look is the office of your school counselor.

Another is to ask around. Normally, you'd hear about "job opportunities" thru your friends. Example, "Oh, I heard Mrs. Smith needs a babysitter and someone to paint the fence"...

Maybe bagging groceries or stocking shelves at the local grocery store. Lawn work. Walking dogs. Baby sitting. Tuttoring kids who need help in school. House cleaning. Local ice cream shop. The public pool as a life guard or in the snack bar.

Not many places. As most jobs require you to be 16+. But you can do shop work, as long as it doesn't involve alcohol or cigarettes. Leisure centre, restaurants, paper rounds. Thats all my ideas.
:)

yeah - I know a 14 yr old who does a paper route for the record.. he does it about once a week and gets about 15+ bucks a week

but he also wants to know of a full time job for the summer.. so I find this a good question

helping out elderly neighbours, like gardening, taking out the trash, cleaning, old people r awesome.. and have lots of money

Try A restaurant, i'm also 14 teen and i work at a restaurant called Culvers.

Yard work, mowing yards, paperboy, dog walker, dog groomer

Hustle.
mow lawns, trim hedges, plant flowers. basically do some local landscaping.

Throwing the daily newspaper.

There are McDonalds around where I live that will let 14-year-olds apply.

Hooker.

Go to a Family Restaurant and ask for work as a bus boy. OR McDonalds.

if you have a work permit you have a few choices... box boy, movie theaters............

The most obvious one is paper rounds. You just need to be fairly fit and active and you get paid decently.

No. Rake leaves or pawn some stuff.

You could mow lawns and do yard work around the neighborhood for the summer. Great way to earn money!

Ice cream store

umm super market (yeah tarus rox)

mowing yards, yard work.

car wash

The easiest job to do at your age, which you can set your own schedule, stay close to home (not have to find transportation) and have days off when you want to is being a laborer of sorts.

If you're in an neighborhood with residences that are houses (vs. high rise city buildings), you can mow and weed-eat lawns and do light landscaping (weeding, transplanting, cleaning fountains/fishponds, etc.). Depending on how large the yard is, you can mow a yard for $20-$25 (the going rate nowadays). Seeming you can mow a yard in less than an hour, it's a pretty good deal for you and I would definitely pay someone to mow my yard! You've got to be neat about it though (sweep off sidewalks, not let trimmings get in the street, etc. and carry off your waste if the owners of the house don't have a yard waste bin). Your costs would of course be gas and oil for the equipment and purchasing the equipment if your parents wouldn't let you use theirs. But...I have a friend who did that in high school, used his parents' equipment until he made enough money to buy his own, kept working every spring on the weekends, all week during the summer and into the fall till you really didn't need to mow anymore and he made bank! The next year he got a buddy to work with him and they picked up a lot more business. Now he's an adult in his 30's with his own yard and landscaping business worth over a million dollars. And it all started from just mowing lawns.

Another thing you can do is walk dogs and pet sit. That's what I'm doing right now. I make $20 a visit (lasting about 45 minutes) to walk someone's dog while they're at work/vacation, visit someone's house while they're on vacation to clean out the cat's litter box, feed/water the animals, feed the fish/birds, etc. Remember that your time is valuable. Don't let someone try to talk you into paying one rate per DAY instead of per visit. I have one dog client and I go walk their dog at 9 AM, 1 PM and 5 PM while the client is at work. I make $60 for three visits, not $20 for each day.

If you're into helping the elderly/handicapped, you can run errands for them (and able-bodied others, of course). Some need a few groceries but don't want to go to the store for just a gallon of milk, need help cleaning their house, walk their dog, do light yard work, etc.

The most important thing you can do to earn and keep business is to show up on time and be meticulous in your work. Sloppy or forgetful work doesn't get rehired. Word of mouth can be a wonderful thing. If you have happy clients, they tell their family and friends. If you have unhappy clients, they'll tell that too. And don't let anyone take advantage of you. I know you're excited about making money, but don't work for less than you and the job is worth. You'll earn respect if you are a businessman/woman in dealing with the client. Don't say yes to everything, be open minded but stand your ground on what you believe. Oh, and if you don't really get along with a client, it's ok to say no to someone. It's much better to turn down a client than to be miserable while you work for him/her.

You can go to www.vistaprint.com and get some nice business cards made up with your name, phone number and email to start handing out to people and hanging on bulletin boards. I get mine from there and can get 500 for about $3.99 plus shipping.

Good luck and have a great summer!

Look for work in Malaysian sweatshops. Making Nikes is fun!
