Im trying to open a bussiness and need some starting points ? |
im currently an electrician and have partners in construction fields and there is work out there!(green!!) ..im thinking a general contractor... but i dont know were to start?? please help! register a business name with the IRS, open a checking account and deposit some money. Contact your state to register your business. I hired a journey-level carpenter for a project. One of my goals was to organize a team that I could grow, so I took on 5 other "green" trainees. My lead carpenter is highly energetic and wants to start his own company. I pretty much let him run the project as he saw fit. When I saw the project turn into a loss for my company, I took him aside to analyze the outcome if he were the owner instead of me. It was an eyeopener for him. My suggestion to him is the same I would give you. Let one of your construction contacts take you on as a protege. Hypothetically, assume I was your mentor and you the protege; I would include you in the bidding, contracts, scheduling, payroll, customer service, taxes, etc. so you would track exactly where the costs and profits were. My reason for doing this is that I build a growing network of reliable labor...some of it mine and some of it from a subcontractor that I've trained. Before you get into more trouble, contact your local licensing board. I' fairly certain to become a general contractor there are some very steep fees, not to mention other requirements. 1.Determine your collective competencies. First make sure that what ever licenses are required you have. You should also be bonded and insured, News papers, real estate agents, bulletin boards at laundry mats home improvement stores are a good place to start |
