Quick question. how do you write a check for a store?

if you are at target, do you write "target" where you put who its for? if its best buy, do you write "best buy"?

Yes, the payee is the name of the store. Any other name could cause problems at the bank.

Most business' have you just sign the check. The employee will stick it in a machine and it fills out everything else for you.

But to answer your question, yes, you put the company name in the 'Pay to the order of:' line.

Yeah you got it right. If you are unsure you can always ask the clerk or ask costomer services.
