Will there be a recession in 2008?

Can you please give some detail as to what besides the weak US dollar makes you think you are in a recession?

No the US economy will continue to expand over the next few decades and probably century and supposed superpowers like China are minuscule in comparison to the US economy(they have a long way to go),the worlds economy has been expanding since 1994 and will be expanding even more on all these free trade agreements that a lot of innovative countries like the US have signed,the old rules of boom and bust may not apply,(the weak US dollar is only temporary)

We ARE in a recession, which is a nice way to say depression, right now.

Depends on your definition of recession, if its two consecutive quarters of negative growth then i would say that no there will not be a recession next year.

There will be the biggest recession in 2008 that you have seen in your life. That's obvious from all the figures I've seen.
It starts in the USA and it is world wide.

I've been told to expect one mid-2008. I don't know how anyone can predict that but I will probably get my butt out of the stock market around March until I can see what happens!

I think there will be one and hopefully it won't be as bad as the one we had back in the early 80's where interest rates on mortgages went up to 19 %. A lot of people lost their homes and it looks like it's on the way to doing that again. I'll just keep my eyes wide open and try to keep away from credit, however if everyone stops buying merchandise it will become even worse then that, people will start to lose their jobs, which means no spending, small business will then become affected, probably close, and on and on up the chain. We need to get the government to start working on the serious issues before it's to late.

Many people believe we're already in a recession. The worth of our dollar is depreciating and if that continues to happen it will be more expensive to import goods (and most of our goods are imported) and people will be thrown even futher in debt. There are no policies in effect to fix the problem now and until there is there will more than likely be a recession in the next year.

I do, just because I don't see how things are going to get better. Today, I attempted to take a payment at my job from someone. This person went through 8 credit cards, all of them rejected. If the cost of gas went down, and if there was some kind of HUGE spending package in congress to help families with foreclosure, then MAYBE. There are a lot of other negative factors in the financial market right now, so all these little things have to improve to avoid a "snowball effect".
