Why is my package not here yet?

USPS picked up my order and went on delivery around 1pm today. The location where it was picked up from is simply a 15 minute drive from where I live so I expected it to have arrived today. Why would it not make it here today as it is already 7pm and most drivers are done (I use to be a helper for delivery so I know). This purchase was through Amazon.com and they have the tracking details but their tracking number does not work on the USPS website. Why?

USPS does not provide same day service.

It has to go through sorting and then get back out to a delivery truck/postman.

The earliest you could get it would be tomorrow and depending on your local offices efficiency it could take up to 10-14 days if not sent next day or priority.

Just because it is 15 minutes away does not obligate the postal service to do things any differently from what their regulations allow.
