Are these online companies for paid extras legit?

I am moving to Los Angeles from Sandusky, Ohio in August. Please, I am not interested in comments like "Don't move to LA". This isn't what I am looking for with my question. I have been online quite a bit lately and I have seen ads for being a paid extra. They are companies you work for and they call you if needed. They say you can get a couple days a week of work. They also say you can get paid 100 dollars to 400 dollars a day. Are these companies a scam or are they legit? Because I definitely wouldn't mind being a paid extra a couple days of week and possibly tending bar a couple nights as well when I first move out there.

Your best bet is to get Variety or Hollywood Reports and look in the ad sections there. They are the industry "bibles" (for lack of a better term) and will have the legit work for extras.

There are companies that do pay that for extras, but I would not do it online unless it is from one of those two sources.

They have a 95% chance of being scams. They are a waiste of time.

lol... legit movie studios and companies dont pay extras much at all. and they treat you like crap. i lived in wilmington nc. they filmed dawsons creek, one tree hill there. about 10 movies while i was there domestic disturbance, the muppets in space, empire records, etc....

i had a few friends who did extra work they said it was not much fun and games. the get chefs to cater for the main talent and the crew but the extras get bologna sandwiches.

the websites you are talking about sound like scams. they will probably have you give them $400 to take your professional headshots and say they will put you in contact with casting agents but you would probably be able to do everything they do on your own
