Should I have been paid for an 8-hour interview?

I had an interview for an company called TMB and was called back for part 2 which I had went around with the assistant manager and watch what he did all day and how the work went. I was there from 8am-6pm. They called this an 8 hour interview but it anded up being 10 hour thing.

My aunt said I should have been paid although I did not do anything that required me doing there job I was just watching.

Also I am in Washington State.

If he didn't indicate to you how long to stay, then I'd say yes you should have been paid for that. I'd call the company and talk to the HR department about it.

You were not promised any pay. You did nothing to add value to that company and you could have left at any time. No they do not owe you any compensation. The extra two hours are normally because they are pretty interested in you and wanted to spend some extra time checking you out or they might just be poor managers of their time.

Your Aunt is wanting to watch out for you but in the work world you have to be ready to deal with these little inconveniences and worry about whether everything is exactly fair.
