What is the best way to determine shipping costs for Ebay items?

I've seen this question asked previously and the answers. I was looking at it today in their help section and did the shipping demo as well. I've already been to the US post office to weigh all the items too (which I lost the piece of paper). But unfortunately the Ebay site looks like it only allows for an estimate (ex 2-3 #) and then gives the low end of possible shipping

I've lost out on profit several times with shipping on Ebay but I guess I also don't like to overcharge the customers. I prefer the actual shipping costs depending on how they want it shipped, Priority vs Parcel post. But I also think there should be a charge for say the box and all that. After all I still have to pay for the box(es), the tape, the address labels, time and gas to go ship it, and of course losing profit to Ebay and Paypal for the use of their services

You should have an idea on how much is the cost of the box. You can always pick up free USPS Priority or Express Mail boxes or envelopes free of charge in the post office. Ebay is for you to get rid of your excess goodies. Since you are planning to make money out of these items, you should do your own planning and estimate all the reasonable cost in mailing.
I am just happy to get rid of stuff that I no longer need at a reasonable price. It is no different than garage sales. Do your own homework and check out what you are selling at other folks' listing, and add your own cost to come up with what is reasonable shipping and handling charges.
